This is a regional Carpathian endemic element quite widespread in the nemoral belt of the mountains and taller hills. Sometimes it is considered as a subspecies of A. lycoctonum L. and included in this aggregate species with all European taxa with long helmet. However in this case the widely overposed areas of the different subspecies should provide large intergradation and a large gene melting pots. As this seemingly is not the case, these taxa act more like species than subspecies.
