Flora Europaea perennial, H nemoral forests, mesic to mesoxeric Carpathian Querco-Fagetea from where it can radiate into  the mesic grasslands around of Arrhenatheretalia Most of the R41 habitats from where it can enter most of the R38s In Romania generally widespread in the nemoral forests of the Carpathians and in the hills but not so frequent in most regions           This is a regional Carpathian endemic element quite widespread in the nemoral belt of the mountains and taller hills. Sometimes it is considered as a subspecies of A. lycoctonum L. and included in this aggregate species with all European taxa with long helmet. However in this case the widely overposed areas of the different subspecies should provide large intergradation and a large gene melting pots.
